What is the BMABA Verification Service?
We recognised on day 1 as an Association that there must be an easy & affordable way for honest instructors to be confirmed as such and for dishonest instructors to be exposed.
Some Associations ‘skirt-around’ the issue and award certification or licensing without merit – we’re not prepared to do this. We are fiercely dedicated to providing an incredible range of services for honest and genuine instructors only and would sooner (and have) turned down hundreds of applications, accepting only applicants who can prove their credentials and uphold the good name of martial arts.
How does the verification scheme work?
We are the original & first martial arts association to hold verifiable and index linked certification as standard. This means everything issued to you in an official capacity (such as licenses, certification, grades etc) is linked to an international database, similar to that of the DVLA for drivers in the UK.
All documentation has a serial number that corresponds to that exact piece of documentation. It’s also usually accompanied by a QR code that can be scanned for on the spot, second to second up to date confirmation of validity.
This means your certification, documentation, licensing, grades, syllabus and so on can be checked by anybody – student, customer, venue – without any long winded e-mails and waiting around for response.
This is professional certification as it should be. No dodgy ‘home-made’ certificates with a penned signature – this is high quality, professional grade certification with foils, digital stamps, checkable serials and index linked QRs.
What does the BMABA Verification do for me?
If you’re not a genuine instructor it will ensure you never get an opportunity to hold our respected certification & licensing. If you are a genuine instructor (black belt or higher) our verification service will ensure the certification and documentation you hold is always checkable and always respected.

A massive issue in our industry right now is distinguishing yourself from the cowboys who award themselves dan grades, open up schools with a direct debit day to day business moto and teach absolutely rubbish.

Unlike the old days some of the places you need to confirm you’re qualified will involve electronic communication via e-mail, via a website or via something else online.
Our verification scheme, coupled with our tandem digital & physical instructor’s certification means whether it’s over the phone, through your website, via e-mail or in person; you’ll be able to confirm you’re qualified, licensed & insured to do what you love.

How Does It Work?
We have a dedicated database that manages all validation associated with you, your club and any additional instructors your register through our Association.
When you sign up to join our Association we will invite you to provide proof of everything you hold. By default you only need to initially be able to prove you’re qualified to teach. Insurance, DBS & First Aid can be verified at a later date when you’re ready to teach or when you’ve had time to get everything together.
We have a dedicated section through MyBMABA that allows you to upload, manage and control your verification online without needing to send constant e-mails backwards & forwards between our office and yours.
Common Verification Scheme Questions & Answers
What do I have to prove I have during sign up?
When you join our Association online you will need to be able to confirm your qualification to teach. This will usually be a black belt or equivalent (you can find out more about eligibility using the button below).
Additional important documents, like insurance, DBS & first aid don’t have to be supplied at the time of registration and can instead be submitted or updated at a later point.
If you can’t show us proof of teaching entitlement at the time of sign up you’ll have 28 days to submit the information afterwards. During that period you won’t receive any certification from us and neither will you be able to access a range of benefits or services with our Association.
Do I have to purchase everything through you in order to have it verified?
No, not at all.
Unlike some associations we most certainly don’t expect you to purchase everything through us in order to get fully verified status. That would be incredibly immoral.
You can supply evidence from any body, insurer or Association provided they are respectable and in good-standing.
This means insurance certification from a real company that can be contacted online is absolutely fine, but certification on home-paper from John Bloggs down the road is not.
Does getting fully verified cost anything?
No it doesn’t.
You may need to spend money on things like insurance or DBS checks in the first instance, but the process of getting your account fully verified with us doesn’t cost a penny extra – it’s included with our membership fees paid during sign up.
What if I'm not teaching yet? Do I still need to verify all my credentials?
During sign up you’ll be asked if you’re teaching or not. If you’re not teaching we won’t request proof of insurance, DBS or first aid at first, although we will still require proof of your eligibility to teach (i.e; proof of your black belt).
When you’re ready to teach you can notify us via MyBMABA and we’ll update your account accordingly. There is no charge for this.
Do I have to verify my account?
You must verify in part your account by proving you hold valid teaching entitlement (i.e: a black belt) but you’re under no compulsory obligation to fully verify your account with regards to proving insurance, DBS or first aid qualifications.
That said – you must still hold insurance etc to teach, so there is no reason why you wouldn’t want to verify this information as it’s free and shows when anybody checks your certification with us.
